Testing blogging from Photobucket

Descartes said 'I think, therefore I am. Enviroman says, I think, therefore I reduce, reuse and recycle

Testing blogging direct from Photobucket. The test is a failure in my view. I have more than 1 blog in my Blogger account, and had expected to be given a choice to which blog I want to "share" when I click the "Share" button. However, that choice was not given, and Photobucket published the photo to the first blog in the Blogger account, which happened to be this one. Further, the cartoon was published in its full size and in FireFox, the cartoon extended into the right sidebar. In Internet Explorer, this cartoon would push the sidebar to the bottom of the page. I have to edit the post and added the attribute width="395" to the <img> tag to get the cartoon to fit into the main column. Further, Photobucket didn't give me any chance to add some text, and just the photo was published. This paragraph was added by editing the post.

I did this test because I had written a post Adding images to your blog and had written about using Photobucket to blog directly with a photo uploaded there and had described how to publish images using the <img> tag, but felt the post would be incomplete without writing something about blogging the photo direct from Photobucket

Testing out BubbleShare in creating an album for blog

Update: BubbleShare.com is no longer in operation

I am testing out BubbleShare in creating an album for a blog. I first open an account, verify my email, sign in, upload phots, add tags, click "To Blog" (or something like that, from memory). A script is then generated which I paste below. Now let's see what we get when I publish this post with the album entitled "Malaysia, truly Asia".

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

Well, looks like you have to click the play |> button to let the photo album runs.

Eating out: Dinner at Restoran Sing Kee

My daughter and son-in-law took us out for dinner yesterday night, at the Restoran Sing Kee. The restaurant is in Sungai Way New Village, diagonally opposite the Sungai Way wet market, and directly behind the Sungai Way Police Station. My children liked that restaurant because it serves fried kueh tiow with venison (deer meat). The venison is tender and delicious.

The address of the restaurant is
Restoran Sing Kee
No. 28 Jalan SS 9A/16
Sungai Way
47300 Petaling Jaya
Tel: 03-7875 1973

However, last night, they didn't order the kueh tiow with venison. They ordered stir fried chicken with dried chili (RM20), tau foo (RM10), assam fish (RM20), soup (RM15), rice and some other dishes (unfortunately I am not proficient at reading Chinese writings, though I can converse in it, so the description and the prices are not guaranteed correct.

The total cost of the dinner for the seven of us came up to RM 89.70 (USD 25.95). My daughter said it is reasonable.

Below are photos of some of the dishes:

Malaysia, Truly Asia

Will like to share with you some beautiful scenery of Malaysia, its food, culture, traditional dances, games and music, places of interest. Photos are copyright of Tourism Malaysia, but can be used to promote Malaysia. 2007 is Visit Malaysia Year and is also the 50th anniversary of its independence from the colonial rule of Great Britain. Turn on your speakers or put on your headset. It is a musical video. Hope you enjoy the music as well.

Many programs have been planned for visitors for Visit Malaysia Year 2007, so hope to see you there.

Kuching, the cat city

Note: In the musical photo presentation above, the first time you play it, the music may be sporodic, but the replay will be smooth.

Kuching, which is cat in the Malay language, is situated beside the meandering Sarawak River and is the capital city of Sarawak on the Borneo Island. It is not clear how the city got its name, but one of the tale says that when the Englishman Sir James Brooke helped the Sultan of Brunei quell a local rebellion in 1841, he was given the right to rule Sarawak. When he was in Kuching, and was unsure of what to call the town, he pointed to the riverside, and his local guide thinking that he was pointing to a scavenging cat, mentioned the name "kuching", the Malay name for a cat, and that was how the city was named Kuching. But one thing for sure is, the city is not named Kuching because there are many cats in Kuching. The ones you see prominently are concrete ones - sculptures of cats like those you see in the photo presentation above.

Kuching has a few famous delicacies, which you see featured in the photo presentation above, among them kolo mee, which unlike its counterpart in West Malaysia, derive its taste not in the soya sauce added to it, but the taste of the mee is incorporated into the mee itself. There is also the famous Sarawak laksa which has a different taste from its West Malaysian counterpart. The tomato kueh teow (keow teow soaked in tomato sauce) is well liked too.

Kuching has a cat museum too, where all sorts of cats are displayed from the tiger through to cats made of wood, stone, porcelain, pewter or fabric and posters, greetings cards and stamps. The history of man’s relationship with cats is traced from Egyptian cat-worship though Middle Ages persecution. The art and literature section include reproductions of Old Masters which depicted cats right through to Louis Wain (1860-1939) and modern artists such as Zoe Stokes. Also depicted are stories and illustrations of famous cat lovers and their cats from Charles Dickens, Sir Winston Churchill and President Theodore Roosevelt. There are also exhibits on Cats and Children which range from classic books and toys through to modern cartoons.

Kuching is divided into 2 parts by the river. In the main section of the town, the only way to cross over to the other side (the side with the castle and the Astana with small Malay villages behind them) is by sampan, or little boats. When I was there 30 years ago, it only cost 10 cents to take the boat ride. It is still inexpensive. In the newer section of Kuching, the two side is connected by the Satok bridge.

From Malaysia to Jersey City

MAS (Malaysia Airline System) has a 3 times a week flight to Newark Liberty International Airport, near Jersey City, with a stopover at Stockholm. The return fare is RM4757 (USD1362) at the time of writing. Newark is just next to Jersey City.

Jersey City lies on the west bank of the Hudson River across from New York City, and is part of the New York metropolitan area. It is a commercial, industrial and manufacturing center and a port of entry with 11 miles of waterfront. Its advantage lies in its nearness to the island of Manhattan, and many of its companies are extension of business headquartered in Manhattan.

Jersey City has much to offer visitors. You can visit the famous status of freedom and democracy - the Statue of Liberty by boarding a Circle Line ferry at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. The ferry also stop at Ellis Island where there is the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and you can learn about how over 12 millions of immigrants from around the world began their new lives in America.

If you are interested in Science, Jersey City has a Liberty Science Center with interactive exhibits, live animals and America's largest IMAX dome theater. Liberty Science Center is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation project and is scheduled to re-open in July 2007, but it has a temporary Riverside location in the Central Railway Terminal of New Jersey building in Liberty State Park.

If you are interested in museum, there is a long list of museums at Jersey City Museums Galleries

At the Jersey City Waterfront District, you can get to see a beautiful view of the New York skyline. This is also where Jersey City meets the Hudson River. From here, you can catch a PATH subway train, a ferry or perhaps even a water taxi to the famous Manhattan in just a few minutes where among the towering offices and apartment buildings along Washington Boulevard, you can find some famous restaurants. A short walk from the PATH subway or light rail station takes you to excellent shopping at the Newport Mall where sales tax is just 3%.

At Jersey City, you can have a taste of Asia at Indian Square where you can get Indian food, groceries, clothing like saris, salwars and sherwanis, movies and music, jewelry, authentic Indian home-cooked food, books and magazines.

Aeroline Lite: A semi-luxurous way to travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore

I have written a previous post Travel comfortably between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore (click the "BACK" button to get back to this page). Aeroline then provide a double decker coach with a luxurous lounge in the lower deck and passenger seats in the upper deck. The one way fare for that is RM80 (USD22) for adult and RM50 (USD13.75) for children less than 12 years of age.

Now Aeroline offers an alternative - Aeroline Lite. You can now travel on a single decker bus with no lounge, but with no onboard washroom. You will however be provided with light meals, unlimited hot beverages and mineral water, movies, music, magazines and newspapers. There will also be cabin crew to take care of your needs.

The Aeroline Lite one way fare to Singapore is RM60 (USD17.17) and the departure point in Kuala Lumpur is Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and Menara Axis and One Utama Shopping Center in Petaling, and the arrival point in Singapore is Harbour Front Center, the same as for Aeroline.

Hotel room from RM0.99 per night in Malaysia?

Hotels in Amsterdam

Malaysians are great traveler, and travel all over the world, including Amsterdam, and Amsterdam is a great place for Malaysian to visit, especially as there are direct flights to Amsterdam by the Malaysian carrier MAS. Around the 70's, large numbers of scholarships were offered to Malaysians to do their post-graduate studies in Belgium and I was among the group of Malaysians who spent a number of years studying there. However, we not only study, we are not 100% bookworms. When we have the opportunity, we also traveled to the neighboring countries and one of them is the Nederland, which was extra interesting because their Dutch language and the local dialect of the Dutch language, Flams, or Flemish, is very similar to the Dutch language. One of the interesting city that is within easy reach from Ghent, Belgium, was Amsterdam. That was history.

If you are traveling to Amsterdam, unless you have friends or relatives there who are willing to put you up with a night or two, you will need to find a hotel in Amsterdam to stay in. If you need to do that, you can search, and book for hotels in Amsterdam through Hotels in Amsterdam, easytobook. All you need to do at Hotels in Amsterdam, easytobook is to key in your arrival and departure dates, the currency (Euro, USD or pound) and click "search" to find the best hotel that suits your needs.

And to make life even easier for you Hotels in Amsterdam, easytobook has a map search function at Easy Map Search. Just key in the location, arrival and departure time, and a location map like the one below will appear to guide you:

Amsterdam Hotels Easy Map Search

Hotels in Amsterdam, easytobook also has an Advanced Search where you enter your arrival and departure time, currency you want to be quoted in, Star rating, room type (1 to 5 persons), range of room prices you are prepared to pay, location, and tick the type of services and facilities you want available.

If you are traveling to Amsterdam, may I wish you a smooth journey and a pleasant stay.

Novel way to promote Malaysia

Someone taking after Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage has created a similar free or paid way to promote one's website. With the free service, you can only place a 60x20 pixels image on their site, which I have done. I also have used the free Button Generator to generate the button I needed for the above purpose. In return for their service, I am placing image links to their sites below:
