Some directions: Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya is located within University Hospital (I think they call it UMMC now, which is short for University Malaya Medical Center, next to the Maternity Ward. Entrance is from Jalan University. As you enter, proceed to the right. The Faculty of Dentistry is right at the end, next to the Federal Highway. Turn right towards the multi-storey car park. Before you reach the multi-storey car park, there will be the main entrance sandwiched between two part of the large building. It is like a tunnel. There will be a flight of steps leading up to the registration counters. Go there and tell them you want to go for the free mouth screening. Best of luck.

Another chicken rice ball restaurant in Malacca

The original chicken rice ball restaurant is Hoe Kee Chicken Rice (click BACK button to get back to this page), which started selling the now famous chicken ball rice 30 years ago. Now this restaurant is facing stiff competition with many imitators sprouting up.

The latest one is:

Famosa Chicken Rice Ball
28-30, Jalan Hang Kasturi,
Off Jonker Street,
75200 Melaka.
Tel: 606-2860121
Fax: +606-282 4595

in the neighborhood of Old Town, Malacca. It calls its chicken ball rice "Chicken rice ball special".

The Famosa Chicken Rice Ball restaurant is house in a former century-old former goldsmith shop, but has positioned itself as an upmarket chicken ball rice restaurant with its chic décor and comfortable setting. They say their chicken ball are cooked with butter and ginger, complemented by tender chicken meat flavored with sesame oil and sauce. Expect to pay more (about RM10 or USD3 at time of publishing) as becoming of its more comfortable settings.

The real chicken rice balls of Malacca - Hoe Kee Chicken Rice

If you are a sticker for original, and you want to sample the real thing, you will have to go to

Hoe Kee Chicken Rice
No 4, Jonker Street
Malacca,
75200

in Old Town, Malacca, for this is where the famous Malacca chicken rice balls started some 30 years ago. If you want some modern restaurant settings, you will have to go elsewhere as there are lots of imitators now of which I will be writing about later. This one is located in an old little shop just as it was when it started and would appeal for those who long for the nostalgic times.

The golf ball sized, are cooked in butter and ginger and is accompanied by steamed chicken. With imitators sprouting, they have added extras like asam fish, black bean soup and lotus root soup. Expect to pay about RM5 for a decent meal (1.49 USD at time of publishing. Probably more later with the US Dollar falling like "a ton of bricks". Sorry if I got this English saying wrong, but just trying to say that the US dollar is expected to go lower with time).
