Sepak Takraw Traditional Sport SEA (South-East Asia)

Facts and Figures, Sepak Takraw

Sepak Takraw is the Malay name for a sport which is a cross between badminton and volley ball. Players kick or head a rattan ball and try to get the rattan ball across the net to the other side without using hands. According to Wikipedia, this sport originated from China. It is know as "thuck thay" in Laos, "sipa" in Phillipines, simply as takraw in Thailand and in Malaysia it is sometimes referred to as sepak raga.

When it is played informally like in the video above, a group of players form a circle and try to keep the rattan ball in the air for as long as possible using just the leg to kick and the forehead to head the ball into the air.

Aerobic exercise health check fat BMI

This Friday June 13, 2008, Pathmanathan will bring a machine to measure body vital health statistics like body fat, BMI (body mass index) or Quetelet index. BMI is a statistical measure of the ratio of the weight of a person scaled to his or her height. BMI was invented more by a Belgian by the name of Adolphe Quetelet. Body mass index is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of their height. The formulas universally used in medicine produce a unit of measure of kg/m2. Body mass index may be accurately calculated using either of the formulas below.

BMI SI unitweight (kg)/height2(m2)
BMI US units[weight(lb)x703]/height(in.)

Aerobic exercise will be from 7 - 8am as usual. Measurement of vital body health statistics like BMI will be after 8am.

Aerobic Exercise Assistant Leader Alan

Malaysian loves Hawaii island. Hope to tour islands one day

This Malaysian loves Hawaiian islands

Hawaii is a Polynesian archipelago comprising hundreds of small islands with 8 main islands and is a state of United States of America. Just like Malaysia, Hawaii has a tropical climate. The difference, and sometimes it may snow in the highest peaks of the Hawaiian island, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa and sometimes Maui's Haleakala.

Hawaii Main Islands

Hawaii Main Island or just Main Island
This is the largest island and is well known for its volcanoes of which Kīlauea is the most active volcano. I have never seen one. Wonder if I would feel secure enough to climb to its peak to see a real life volcano. One of my dreams , would be to own a Big Island real estate.

Oahu, nicknamed "The gathering place"

(probably because it has the highest population among the Hawaiian islands) is the third largest of the islands. Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, is located on this island. The Asian population is the highest among the US states and Honolulu has a Chinatown. Being Asian, I would love to own also Oahu real estate

Kauai, the "Garden Island"

Kauai is the forth biggest of the Hawaiian island with many nice sceanic waterfalls. Th Kauai must be a real beautiful for more than 70 Hollywood movies and television shows had been shot on location on this island. They include the musical "South Pacific", Disney's "Lilo and Stitch", "Jurassic Park", "Six Days Seven Nights", "King Kong", "Donovan's Reef" and "Blue Hawaii". Sounds like Paradise. Want a piece of paradise? Get some Kauai real estate for a piece of Paradise.

Niihau, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe

These are the other islands of Hawaii. More real estate? No, enough. That would almost complete my Dream driven LifeTM or Objective Driven LifeTM or whatever.

I like Germany: Superior Technology, Sweet Reminiscence, German Language

http://guide-to-malaysia.blogspot.com/2008/06/malaysian-likes-germany-reasons.html (delete)

http://guide-to-malaysia.blogspot.com/2008/06/malaysian-germany-technology.html

Why this Malaysian likes Germany

This Malaysian (me) likes Germany. Why? Reasons:

German Technology is superior

Germany's technology is way above other countries. When I was teaching Wood Technology, we used a book published by Springer Verlag (Verlag is German for publishing house) as text. 30 over years ago, this Malaysian own and drove around a Volkswagen, a very hardy and reliable German car. When I visited Germany, I was impressed with the punctuality of the public transport. Malaysian has a lot to learn in this aspect (punctuality). German buses and trains arrive on time. Malaysian buses and trains follow Malaysian (rubber - elastic) time, if you know what I mean.

Sweet Reminiscence

My classmate went to Germany 30 over years ago to work. I started learning the German language, also some 30 years ago. That helped a lot when I became a post-graduate student in the Flemish (a dialect of Dutch language) speaking part of Belgium. I love sauerkraut and the frankfurter. My niece is married to a German and now living in Frankfurt. I visited Germany a few times when I was studying in Belgium, and then again en route to and from Geneva International Invention exhibition. Berlin was out of the way and is one city I could not visit. I would love to visit Germany again, especially Berlin.

Accommodation in Germany

When I last visit Frankfurt on the way back from Geneva, we stayed in a very nice German hotel. The Internet was not as well established as now and we had to depend on my niece to book accommodation in advance of our arrival. Now it is very easy to book online any Berlin Hotels

Switzerland and Austria

Switzerland

While I have visited Switzerland thrice, I really love Switzerland, especially in winter time up in the skiing resorts. We stayed in Grindelwald and it was just lovely. Again, my family had to go through the chore of hunting for suitable accommodation on arrival, not a pleasant experience and a waste of tourist time. Next time I will probably book online at websites like Switzerland Hotels

Austria

One country I missed during my sojourn in Europe is Austria. Austria, like Germany and Switzerland, is German speaking. I would like to see what Austria has to offer. For accommodation, I would probably try Austria Hotels
