Art galleries in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia National Art Gallery

Malaysia National Art Gallery, Kuala LumpurThe Malaysia National Art Gallery was set up to acquire artworks that reflects the aspiration and creativity of the local and international arts culture, to document, conserve, preserve and conduct research on The National Visual Art Heritage Collection and also the nation's art historiography, to promote and develop the quality of the visual arts by organizing local and international exhibitions, seminar, workshops, competitions and art activities and to create awareness, instill understanding and appreciation of the arts.

At one time, National Art Gallery of Malaysia, agencies under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, various artists' associations, painters, designers, designers, artisans, craftspersons and art students joined together to organise LAMAN SENI KUALA LUMPUR (or Kuala Lumpur Arts Market) which comprises Arts and crafts bazaar where shoppers can find a wide selection of art and craft items that they can buy direct from the artists/craftspersons, demonstration and open studio by local artists and craftspersons where visitors can learn how an idea become a creation and interact with the artists/craftspersons, free hands-on art projects including art competition for the family and art appreciation sessions for all, live performances by musicians and dancers and movie screenings and night-time wayang kulit performances. Laman Seni Kuala Lumpur was supposed to be held on the first Saturday of every month from 8am to 5pm. However, I understand that it had degenerated into a kind of pasar malam (night markets) where all kind of stalls selling trinkets were allowed to operate. I was told it had been discontinued and do not know if it would be brought back

  3. Can you please tell me about any specific courses in art appreciation in KL, they could be short 2-3 days workshops to 2-3 month courses. Where can I get more information on the art scene in KL.

  4. Hi Shailly,

Good thing you asked this question in this post. Looks like there is something to do for zaque that haven't been done yet. I think I probably saved that in my "to do" folder and didn't come back to it. I will copy this message in my latest to do folder and leave a note too on my table to remind me to try to make some enquiries for you as I am not an artist. It is now 5.24pm Malaysian time and probably too late to make phone calls.

Where are you currently, in Malaysia or intending to come to Malaysia?

  5. Do any of the galleries mentioned display contemporary glass art? If no, do you know of any glass art galleries or exhibitions in or around KL? I can't seem to find any! Your help is really appreciated. :)
